I wanted to depict other qualities of Alaska such as the salmon fishing in the summer, the gorgeous northern lights that shine at night in the winter and the gigantic mountains integrated throughout the state.
THE SALMON: The salmon depicted here is a spawning sockeye salmon or "red salmon". Fun fact about the sockeye is that they are the only "vegetarian" salmon out of the 5 species and will only eat phytoplankton. That makes them the healthiest and most delicious to eat (in my opinion)! Because these fish don't eat other fish, they do not bite at bait, so, the most common way of catching these salmon is by a seine boat (net) or on the river "snagging" them in the mouth.
